Cast Vinyl vs. Calendered
Vinyl
We Use Only The Best—Premium Cast Vinyl
In all our outdoor signage, we use cast vinyl as
opposed to calendered vinyl. Why? Cast vinyl
is the right choice for automobile and other business
signs because of its dependable lasting power and conformability
to contoured surfaces.
Cast vinyl film is created by mixing the necessary
ingredients together into a liquid, then pouring the
concoction out into a casting sheet to be heated in
an oven. While in the oven, the solvents are removed
and the result is a thin, durable film.
Another huge distinction between cast and calendered
vinyl is the life expectancy of each. Since cast vinyl
is manufactured very thoroughly during the mixing and
heating stages, it holds up to UV rays and direct heat
much better than calendered.
Reasons to use cast vinyl
over calendered vinyl:
- Long life span—Lasts up to 5 to 7 years
- Does not shrink over time
- Does not produce dark rings around graphics due to
exposed adhesives
- Stands up to UV
- Only 2mm thick (more like a painted surface)
- Best for contour surfaces
- Used by more professionals
